SPUR2020.ORG is a community action group made up of concerned and conscientious residents of Spur, Texas in Dickens County.  Our goal is to incrementally improve our community on many fronts.  One of the organizations main goals is to build a thriving, resilient community that can depend upon itself for food, water and energy- a goal we have committed to achieving over the course of the next 7 years.

To accomplish this goal, we need to stand together as a community and begin the process of digging out from under the years of decline and neglect that has afflicted the infrastructure of our community.  We have already begun the process by spearheading local community clean-up projects called Smart Mob Crews and by supporting local businesses in the form of social buying gatherings that we call BizBash events. In short, volunteers made up of the good people of Spur, TX and surrounding areas, gather and work together on various clean-up projects as well as gather together in support of our local businesses.

Again, our only desire is to see our community and its residents thrive.  We encourage the participation of everyone of all ages and welcome your input, ideas and your time. We hope to see you at the next meeting.

As cheap food, water and energy becomes less available, our neighbors and our local community will become more central to our lives. This means an excellent place to put our efforts is changing our relationships with our neighbors, joining together and working toward community self-reliance.

In "Going Local" we need to re-create our town. All we need to do is change how businesses operate, and produce most of what we need locally.  We need to generate our local economy and help build local business and success for local people.

A scant 100 years ago, communities throughout America were still predominantly self-reliant. Residents grew their own food and purchased locally made goods from area merchants. Even energy needs were met locally, with farm animals and human muscle serving as the primary energy sources.

Food, Energy and Water independency by 2020. Providing a better quality of life without changing the small rural town life-style. Making life better and less complex. Without relying on a handout from the the State or Federal Governments.
